Grateful patient returns to thank caregivers at Ascension Providence
Daniel Woznick was admitted to the Cardiac Specialty Care Unit (CSCU) at Ascension Providence Hospital, Novi Campus, in Michigan in October 2021 with a severe case of COVID-19. During his four-week stay at the hospital, he was cared for by several caregivers, and while his prognosis was poor, they all remained positive and cheered him on. Upon discharge, Daniel moved to a long-term acute care facility, and his CSCU team bid him farewell, hoping for the best.
This past December, Daniel returned to the CSCU to reconnect with his care team. Through hugs, tears and smiles, Daniel shared how he believes that the CSCU team is the reason he is alive today. He shared that while at the long-term hospital he learned to walk again and how happy he was to be able to return to CSCU and see everyone.
“It is extremely rare for our staff to receive any follow-up on their patients after they leave our hospitals,” said Lynn Chiesa, MSN, RN, NE-BC, Regional Chief Nursing Officer, Metro West Region, Ascension Michigan. “Witnessing Daniel walking onto the unit sharing hugs, handshakes and recognition was truly healing for himself and the entire care team. I am so incredibly humbled and proud of the compassion and dedication of our entire team.”
